HOUSE CONCERTS
Host a House Concert with Lucy Gallant
A house concert is simply turning your living room or garden into a stage for live music, surrounded by friends, good food, and great vibes. It's a cozy and intimate way to enjoy music in the comfort of your own space.
As a musician who loves connecting with audiences, I find house concerts to be special. It's not just about the music; it's about sharing genuine moments with listeners, both old and new.
Now, you might wonder, "How do I host one?" It's easier than you think, and I'm here to help.
Creating Your Own House Concert Experience
All you need are some close friends, a snug indoor space (or an outdoor area in the warmer months), and a few comfy seats or cushions to accommodate around 15+ music enthusiasts. Spread the word through a personalised invite, whether it's by email or a Facebook event. And why not turn it into a potluck affair? Encourage guests to bring their favorite dishes, adding a delicious twist to the gathering.
Now, let's address the elephant in the room—won't it be noisy with all the chatting and clinking glasses? Rest assured. While house concerts can evolve into lively gatherings post-performance, during the show, we keep the atmosphere respectful and attentive, akin to a theater setting.
The Experience Unfolds
Doors usually open at 7 or 7:30 p.m but this is up to you.
I’ll play a mix of my original songs, from lively tunes to heartfelt melodies, each inspired by different parts of my life.
I will perform two sets of music, each lasting 35-45 minutes, with breaks for conversation and snacks.
What about sound equipment?
You won’t need to hire a PA system or amplification, as I will bring whatever amplification may be needed.
How much will it cost?
As for the cost, there are two options:
A negotiable straight fee paid by the host.
Donations from guests, typically ranging from £10-15 or €20-€30 or $20-$30 per person, depending on the country. However, guests are encouraged to be as generous as they wish.
These contributions embody the spirit of the traditional "soirées," where music flourished under the patronage of society members eager to support and share great art and performance. Your generosity not only sustains independent musicians like myself but also ensures that the magic of house concerts continues to thrive.
